Finish

Finish is a key part of the build process: it not only protects the wood, but also significantly affects its resonance and shapes the instrument’s visual character. Each type of finish interacts with the material differently—some techniques highlight the natural grain, others deliver top-level mechanical durability, while others let the wood “breathe” and keep it as lively as possible. For our instruments, we use only finishes that respect the acoustic properties and provide professional protection for many years. We apply every finish by hand in controlled layers to prevent excessive damping and preserve the natural tone and dynamics of the material used.

We offer four main types of finishes, each delivering a specific tonal and aesthetic result:

Wax finish

Half the success of this finish lies in its ability to blend with the material: the wax doesn’t create a thick, plastic-like armor, but a very thin, natural-looking protective layer that lets the wood breathe and resonate freely without noticeable damping. The second pillar is acoustic openness and an organic feel, keeping the instrument’s sound fast-responding and authentic—visually complemented by a matte surface that brings out the depth of the grain without adding artificial shine. This finish is also extremely practical for professionals, as it feels great to the touch and allows easy spot renewal and maintenance, so the instrument keeps its soul and the player’s direct connection with the wood’s structure for decades.

Gloss resonant lacquer

This type of finish combines uncompromising protection with aesthetic depth, creating a stable shield on the wood’s surface that reliably isolates it from moisture and the demands of life on stage. The precisely applied lacquer layer is designed not to choke the instrument’s acoustic potential, but instead to support a clear tone with a defined response and long sustain. Beyond technical durability, the lacquer visually dramatizes the wood’s natural grain and texture, giving it a luxurious mirror gloss and a prestigious look. It’s an ideal choice for musicians looking for a presentable design and minimal maintenance, without having to compromise the natural resonance of their instrument.

Satin finish – Resonant matte

Satin finish – Resonant matte (Satin Finish)

This type of finish stands out for its fine matte character, which feels exceptionally pleasant to the touch and remains stable even during long, intensive playing. Its biggest advantage is a significant reduction in friction, ensuring smooth, fast hand movement—especially appreciated on the back of the neck. Applied in a thin layer, the lacquer doesn’t hinder the wood’s natural resonance and preserves its tonal balance, while visually it looks modern and understated. It’s an ideal choice for players who want a clean, elegant, practical look without distracting reflections, while demanding maximum functionality with every contact with the instrument.

Patina (wood grain enhancement), resonant

This decorative, carefully considered finish intentionally emphasizes the wood’s natural structure and depth, turning its grain into a dominant visual element with authentic character. The entire process is designed so the patina has no negative impact on the sound; the wood retains its lively resonance, and the specific method is always adapted to the material type and playing style. We focus on making the instrument not only look exceptional, but also feel natural and deliver a sonically balanced result. By choosing this finish, you get a reliable, durable instrument that visually tells its own story and performs with technical confidence both in the studio and under demanding stage use.
